Larry Nozero and I had a very special relationship. You see, we were both “Jobimphiles.” Upon that realization, countless conversations ensued about Jobim’s music and hopes of one day having a group to perform his music exclusively.

There was so much material to be covered, a lot of which Larry had, after years of collecting. We started in 2003. Our mission was to present the music seldom or never heard by this great composer. It was beautiful, exciting, challenging and great fun. Most of all, it was a dream finally realized and we were beside ourselves in musical joy.

After only four performances Larry became ill. Seven months later he passed. My heart broke.

The Jobim Project was one of the most important musical endeavors of my career and I will continue to perform his music. We are inextricably connected, Jobim, Larry and I.

“We are kites in the sky, we can fly, we can fly, we can fly, we can fly.”
